Three fundamental aspects of an infrared thermometer (or pyrometer)

The ratio of distance to object size (D:S). Pyrometers have a measurement target (spot) which determines the detection diameter in relation to the measurement distance.
Reflection. If the surface whose temperature you want to know is reflective, it is better to opt for traditional thermometers with contact probes.
It does not measure air temperature. Pyrometers detect the energy emitted by a hot body and therefore do not allow the measurement of ambient air.
